Her products are as local as they come. The Marigolds (Calendula Officinalis) are grown in her own gardens, all coming from an original plant brought over from Germany many years ago.

Calendula Officinalis  is known to restore dry and irritated skin, and has a long history of use in skin care. It’s rich tannins (astringent compounds), gently tone and tighten tired, aging or weathered skin. Their combination of English and French varieties of lavender not only add a lovely fragrance, but also soothe stings, minor cuts and burns and dry or rough skin.

Her wonderful products which you can find on our site, do not contain petroleum derivatives, zinc oxide, artificial colours, fragrances, or chemical preservatives.

Here is her story:

The Story of Works Wonders Herbal Care Company began with the goal of soothing one baby. A local mom, dedicated to natural and herbal remedies set out on a course to make a skin treatment for her first child. Eventually, Bum-Bum cream (as it was affectionately known in the early days) became a slathering success amongst the group of mothers who met regularly. Word of mouth and the silent approval of happy babies set Works Wonders on the course it is today.

It was in 1998 that founder, Barbara Ballantyne, a practicing architect at the time, found out there was little choice for locally made, chemical free, natural baby cream. Now, nearly twelve years after the first little jar of salve, Works Wonders is a recognizable brand in the Lower Mainland.

True to its grassroots origins, Works Wonders continues to foster local alliances for ingredients and materials. It is known for minimizing packaging and energy used in shipping and distribution wherever possible. The products in the expanded line continue to have Barbara’s personal care and attention to ensure no chemicals, or artificial agents are used in its products. That is why the flowers used are still proprietor grown and managed without chemical fertilizers, pesticides or herbicides, and are still hand-picked at their peak and shade-dried for optimum quality.

Works Wonders remains true to its call to provide local customers (and people half way around the globe) with a locally, hand-made line of quality natural skin care products. Barabara plans to expand the company’s distribution and add to the product line within the next year. And as always, she promises to continue to lovingly oversee production at every step for the benefit of you and your baby!
