Over Production of Milk
Posted on Wednesday, February 18, 2009 by bbb-admin
It has been awhile since our last post. The Christmas season paired with crazy weather kept us hard at work and no time to blog. Since our last post, I have also welcomed a new addition to our family, a little boy, born a week ago today.
I thought I would post this link to a great artcle on the overproduction of breastmilk. As you probably guessed, a problem I am currently having. There is significant information “out there” on under-production, but very little on the opposite. One would think that over production is not a bad problem to have however, the results can be just as devastating as underproduction. A fussy baby that can’t latch, bad gas, and under or over nourishment are common problems. This article has great info and I am currently trying out the method suggested since pumping off a bit first and then feeding the baby is not working and my baby is getting too much foremilk and not enough of the fatty, filling hind milk he needs.
Penny for your thoughts.

The block feeding method to slow down an oversupply worked beautifully within a couple of days. A hint is to make sure you do it sooner rather than later because I ended up getting mastitis from a backup of milk before I did the first total emptying. Our baby is doing great and I am much more comfortable!
did this work for you? i am having an overproduction problem and have been doing the block feeding for a day and a half. i had not done the double pumping emptying, but will maybe try it tonight and go from there.
